Highlights Vogue May 2013

I just love reading Vogue, especially Vogue Paris, but browsing through all the other editions ... you start dreaming away and get lost in the stories each beautiful picture tells. That's why I wanted to share my favorite pictures from the may Vogue world wide editons.

Oxblood

Shades of nature's Oxblood

Shades of Oxblood

Burberry F/W 2012

Vogue Paris, October 2012

Alexa Chung

One of the colors for this Autumn / Winter is Oxblood (or burgundy/ bordeaux like red), some wear a complete outfit in this color ( like Alexa in this opening picture of this blog) and it works for them, but for me ... I think it's more exciting to just add a hint of this color. I especially love it when you combine Oxblood with some shades of Grey. How to do so? Let me show you ...

You have to be able to pull off the combination black/ oxblood (some look like Morticia), but if you are able to ... looks stunning!

Or just a little more sophisticated it is when you wear it as an accessory color in your bag, shoes, etc ...

Or as a lipstick and nails as shown in the Chanel shows:

Biennale des Antiques

From 14 to 23 September the Grand Palais houses carries in its heart a multitude of precious jewels. This is due to a special occasion: the Biennale Antiques. Especially for the the XXVI edition of the National Union of Antiques, Karl Lagerfeld designed this exhibition. You can find stunning and exclusive pieces of jewelery by  Cartier, Harry Winston, Boucheron, Van Cleef & Arpels, Wallace Chan, Chaumet, Bulgari, Dior, Chanel and Piaget. Vogue Paris made an exclusive preview, which is really nice to watch ... make sure your boyfriend accidentally also sees this ;)

Kate Moss & J Brand

As you might know, Kate Moss is one of the biggest fans of JBrand jeans and I just wanted to share this picture, by Vogue Paris taken of Kate, on March 26,  in the streets of London. Kate Moss took advantage of the first breezes of spring, with sunglasses on her nose and bouquet of tulips, to show of a very bohemian 70's look.
Dressed in a vintage embroidered blouse, flared trousers by J Brand and leather ankle boots by Marc Jacobs. It's fun to see how she combines a black rock look with hippy flower power ... and it works!

Perfect start

Last night I went to bed quite on time, so I woke up this morning - early - by the birds singing in my garden and I was completely awake. Showered, got dressed and went to Schiphol Airport - quite near my home approx. 15 min. drive by car. I love going there, drinking a good Starbucks cappuchino and watching people arriving and going to their destinations while the rest of the world is waking up. Also the stores at the airport never seem to close, so I got my Vogue Paris with Doutzen on the cover, which is available today in the news stands. Emmanuelle performed again: love the denim special and the interview with Francis Ford Coppola about his new movie Twixt. All together it is the perfect start of a friday morning, now back to my home office and do some work :)

London Fashion Week: Stella McCartney's flash-mob fashion

A magic show, live jazz - Stella McCartney's special London Fashion Week show... Unannounced to her guests, the designer coordinated a flash mob, which resulted in models and dancers climbing on chairs and dancing to Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song.

This is how a visitor described it and filmed it:
On a chilly night in London, Stella McCartney invited us and a few friends (you know, like Kate Moss, Rihanna, Mario Testino, and just about every high powered editor in fashiondom) to an old church in Mayfair. We were all sitting pretty, eating vegetarian food (of course), and then there was a magic show. Alexa Chung levitated on the tips of swords. It was cool. And then there was a scream, and the flash dance began. What followed was an epic fashion moment of professional dancing and supermodel Vogue-ing. Amber and Shalom even did a walk off on chairs. Like so many videos attempting to capture a bit of glamour, this one doesn't do the moment justice. But at least it's a view into a fabulous fashion experience. Well done, Stella

My own skateboard

When I was young (really, really young) I loved riding my skateboard, right now I changed it for surfing :). But everytime I see some kids riding their boards I get the jitters. I haven't got a board anymore, probably got lost during the years from moving from one house to another. But this morning when browsing the Vogue US website, I read the following article and I am now seriously thinking of getting one of these great looking boards... If I do, I'll probably start practicing after dark ... when all my neighbourhood kids have gone to sleep, so I won't look that rediculous trying to pick up my skateboard skills again ;)

“In the 1960s, if you wanted a skateboard, you carved and painted it yourself, and that is what we make, a classic skateboard with a modern twist,” explains Lauren Andino of DL Skateboards, the company she started last spring with her partner, furniture designer Derek Mabra. Indeed, each and every DL skateboard is made by hand in the living room of the couple’s one bedroom apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. “We clear off the coffee table, sketch them, and then Derek shapes and carves the wood and I paint them,” says Andino of their process. Not surprisingly, their charming, artisanal boards have been garnering quite a cult following in New York and Europe. As Andino explains, “They almost look like surfboards—the Lightning Bolt, the Cali Wave, the Rising Sun—all of our motifs are inspired by classic surfboard designs from the 1960s and 70s.”

Handmade DL skateboard decks, $125 each

Fifty & Fabulous

Italian Vogue has paid an homage to Meg Ryan on their website to celebrate Meg's 50th birthday. they're showing us how fabulous you can look at fourty or fifty - or actually no matter what age or what size you are ... And to be honest she really looks better then ever, what do you think? The pictures are from shoots Meg did for Italian Vogue in 2009 and 2004.
