Sogno Di Donna by Steven Meisel
For those who know Franca Sozzani, the news that the June cover of Italian Vogue is of three curvy “plus size” models will not come as much of a surprise.
The boundary pushing editor in chief of the cutting edge fashion bible has been causing debates and controversy for years with her magazine. Remember, back in 2008 she came out with the “All Black” issue of the magazine which featured only black models.
This month it is time for the hourglass gals to get their moment on the cover. Called “Real Beauties” the issue shows the models on the cover provocatively posed around a table and offering up their “wears” by only wearing lingerie.
For those who frequently log onto the Italian Vogue website the choice to use curvy models seems fitting. Already the main vogue.it website features two sisters sites dedicated to curvy and black women, and both have been online for over a year.
Talking about the issue, Ms. Sozani said in a statement that “A growing number of readers are now asking to see – even in fashion magazines – a real world, made of real people who are not obsessed with staying thin, but are able instead to naturally accept and respect their bodies as they are.”
I think the models: Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine and Robyn Lawley, the photography by Steven Meisel, the setting ... are just so sexy and beautiful! But check it out for yourself...
